I can’t believe I haven’t posted this amazing surprise proposal earlier (but it’s ok, if you follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you’ve probably seen a few photos on How They Asked).
Patrick got in touch with about doing a surprise proposal during a couple’s session in Paris. In case you didn’t know about the logistics of doing a surprise proposal, there are a few ways to do it: I can pretend to be a regular tourist that just happens to be standing nearby when you propose or we can do a couple’s session that turns into a proposal about 15 minutes into the shoot). While both are pretty adrenaline pumping, the second option is a better guarantee of fabulous photos. The person being proposed to doesn’t know what’s about to happen, but they’ve prepared to look their best for what they think is just a regular photo shoot. It’s also easier for me to get everyone in the right position before the big reveal happens.
After explaining the options to Patrick, he decided to go with the second one. It was pretty easy to explain as Sarah had just lost her camera and was bummed about not having any photos during their trip. We started at the Bir Hakeim bridge, which was a “warm up” and then we made our way down to the banks of the river Seine where Patrick popped the question (and we all popped the champagne a few minutes after!)
