Whitewashed walls, blue domes, and the caldera dropping into the sea. Santorini is one of the most photographed places on earth, and it’s a favorite for honeymoons and anniversaries. Booking a Santorini photographer means you come home with photos of the two of you in that view.
I’m a photographer in Paris, so Santorini is outside my area. When someone asks me who to book on the island, I send them to Flytographer, a Canadian company with local photographers in 350+ cities, Santorini included. Here’s what I’d want to know before booking.

Why book a photographer in Santorini
Santorini’s famous lanes are narrow, and in high season they fill up fast, especially when cruise ships are in. A local photographer knows the corners that stay quiet, the viewpoints that work at each time of day, and how to get you there before everyone else.
They also know the island’s etiquette. Many of the rooftops and terraces in the photos you’ve seen online belong to hotels and homes, and locals have asked visitors to stop climbing onto them. A good photographer knows where you’re welcome.
The best time for a Santorini photoshoot
Sunrise. This is the time I’d pick. The light is soft and pink on the white walls, the paths in Oia are close to empty, and it’s cool enough to be comfortable.
Sunset. Santorini sunsets are famous, which is the problem. Oia at sunset gets extremely crowded. If you love that warm light, ask your photographer about a quieter village or a viewpoint away from the castle.
Season. Spring and early fall bring softer light, fewer people, and milder heat. July and August are the busiest and windiest months.
Where to take photos in Santorini
Oia. The blue domes and the postcard views. Go at sunrise for the best chance at clean backgrounds.
Imerovigli. Perched high on the caldera rim, with big views and a calmer feel than Oia. Skaros Rock sits right below it.
Firostefani. Between Fira and Imerovigli, with its own blue dome views and fewer crowds.
Fira. The island’s main town, busy and lively. Good for a quick session if you’re staying nearby.
Pyrgos. An inland village with winding lanes and a more local feel. A nice change from the caldera edge.
What to wear for Santorini photos
White, cream, and soft blues blend with the island. Bold colors like red, coral, fuchsia, or yellow pop against all that white. Both work, so choose the look you like.

The wind is real, especially in summer. Flowing dresses look gorgeous in it, but bring a couple of bobby pins or a hair tie and expect your photographer to work with the breeze.
The paths are steep, uneven, and full of steps. Flat sandals or low wedges are the safest choice, and you can switch into something prettier for a few frames if you like.
