Best Locations for a Family Session in Paris in 2023

Your guide for getting the best family photos in Paris

It may not seem like it, but Paris is actually an amazing place for a family photo session! The amount of gorgeous locations in close proximity gives such a variety in your photos without the hassle of dragging the kids all over the city.

In just a few steps, you can go from the fountains of the Tuileries Gardens, to the grandiose archways of the Louvre (not to mention the Louvre Pyramid itself), to the striped columns of Palais Royal. Let’s be honest, trying to get children to go from one spot to another is like herding cats, so it’s easiest when the route is short and entertaining.

If you already live in Paris and have done your fair share of photos in front of the city’s most iconic spots, there are plenty of other locations I can recommend. Skip to the bottom of this guide for 2 of my favourite places just outside the city.

1.
The Louvre and Tuileries Gardens

Always a classic, the Tuileries Gardens and the Louvre as usually duo that no one can resist. I like to start off at one end and make our way through the gardens towards the Pyramid, ensuring a beautiful variety of architectural and natural backdrops.

2.
Palais Royal

The Palais Royal as magnificent façades that somehow make everyone’s skin glow in photos, but what the kids appreciate most about this location are the striped columns and the shiny, giant metal balls fountain. I like to finish family photo sessions here because it gives kids that extra boost of energy once they see all the places that they can climb and jump around.

3.
Eiffel Tower

There are two options to get family photos at the Eiffel Tower: at Trocadero or at Champs de Mars. While you get stunning panoramas from Trocadero, it can often get crowded, not to mention all the stairs you need to navigate (which are totally fine for older kids and teenagers). Personally, I prefer the Champs de Mars, with its spacious green lawn and pockets of mini gardens scattered along the way.

The best part? The carrousel that’s just around the corner from the Eiffel Tower makes for some really cute photos.

4.
Bir Hakeim Bridge

Yes, the bridge from Inception is a great location for family photos with a view of the Eiffel Tower. The bridge itself makes quite a statement, and the view from the lookout is one of the best in the cities. Just remember to get there early in the morning, otherwise you’ll be rubbing elbows with fashion models and bridal parties all looking for a few shots in front of the Eiffel Tower.

5.
Montmartre

It’s one of the few locations in Paris that has bright fall foliage, so if you’re really missing those North American colours, this is your go-to place for family photos.

6.
Versailles

I couldn’t write this guide without mentioning one of my favourite places for a family session (almost) in Paris. The Versailles park is actually free and accessible all year round, while the gardens are accessible in the off-season. Weekday mornings are the least crowded and there are so many places to see that it’s impossible for the little ones to get bored.

7.
Parc de Saint Cloud

I like to call this the mini Versailles, except without all the tourists and the giant chateau. Parc de Saint Cloud is located just outside Paris and is spacious, well-maintained and rarely crowded. The highlight is the sprawling fountains at the south side of the park.
